What will define the look of summer 2019? Though it’s early to say for sure, some unexpected trends are already bubbling up. Case in point? The adorned foot. Yes, feet might actually be the new ears, if the bejeweled ankles and toes we’re seeing are anything to go by. Looking for proof? Take a peek at Kylie Jenner’s Instagram. She posted an image just yesterday that was the ultimate in accessorized noughties feet. Jenner wore two glimmering toe rings around the phalanges on her right foot and one on her left foot’s middle digit. On her ankles, she layered two chains: one gold with dangling charms, the other a constellation of crystals, or possibly, real diamonds. The piece de resistance? A pair of flip flops, the non-fashion fashion shoe of summer. Her floor-clacking sandals came with an extra dose of Y2K glamour, encrusted with glittering rhinestones. To show off the foot bling to the fullest, the beauty mogul posted an Instagram story of herself wiggling her freshly painted toes.

Adorned feet have been making a comeback on in the last year. For Loewe’s Resort 2019 collection, Jonathan Anderson showed artisanal knit slippers finished with images of French pedicures and toe rings. Barely-there shoes have been having a moment, too thanks to the thong heel, a shoe most beloved by Kim Kardashian West.
