Kylie Walker, Payton Haugen and Westosha Central, The Prairie School lead WIAA state girls golf tournament after Day 1

MADISON - At the WIAA state girls golf tournament at University Ridge on Monday, two area golfers and two area teams lead the pack in their respective divisions at the conclusion of the first round.

Freshman Payton Haugen of Brookfield East and junior Kylie Walker of Westosha Central have a four-stroke lead over the rest of the field in Division 1 after tallying scores of 69 to finish 3-under par.

Westosha Central (307) also possesses an eight-stroke lead over second-place Middleton (315) in its quest for a repeat title in D1.

The Falcons' leading effort was also comprised of junior Katelyn Walker (73) tied for third, senior Elle O'Reilly (81) tied for 25th and junior Chloe Brown (84) tied for 34th. Brookfield East (320) sits in third in D1, followed by Union Grove (325), Waunakee (334), Oconomowoc (342), Arrowhead (343), Tomah (347), Kaukauna (353), Divine Savior Holy Angels (360), Bay Port (364) and Stevens Point (390).

Also cracking the top 10 among greater Milwaukee area competitors in D1 after one round were senior Norah Roberts (73) of Union Grove tied for third, junior Madison Haugen (75) tied for seventh, and Arrowhead seniors Julia Larson (77) and Kaitlyn Amtmann (77) each tied for 10th.

The Prairie School (348) also leads Division 2 by four strokes over Prescott (352) in what is quickly evolving into a two-team race for the title headed into Day two. Edgewood (375), Altoona/Regis (378), Lancaster (389) and Wrightstown (410) round out the field of teams.

The Hawks are led by senior Sophia Lawler (81) in sixth, followed by junior Kadyn Peery (88) tied for 14th, Aishani Dhar (89) in 16th and junior Addison Lalonde (90) tied for 17th.

Also finishing among the top 10 individual scores in D2 after one round was senior Audrey Fryda (85) of Catholic Memorial, who is tied for ninth.

Tee times for Day 2 are scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday at University Ridge.
