L.A. Black Pride Recognizes Raven-Symoné With Trailblazer Award
L.A. Black Pride will return to Los Angeles leading up to July 4 in order to celebrate the queer Black community.
On Monday, organizers announced that out singer and actor Raven-Symoné has been named as this year's Jewel Thais-Williams Trailblazer. The Daytime Emmy Award-nominee was selected for her "undeniable contributions and impact on mustic, TV/film, and culture," according to the release.
Greg Mathis Jr. and Elliot Cooper will host the event's CLSQ Kickoff Celebration at Chapel at the Abbey on June 29. Raven-Symoné will receive the award during the ONE "Mega Party."
"Produced by BBE Group, each year LABP reflects on the year's past and the people and pioneers that have paved the way. In 2023, we are celebrating ourselves, daily. We are celebrating those who are shaping the future of our community, big and small. This year’s theme, #MyBlackIsGold, is more than a mission; it’s a mantra. It’s an affirmation that we are worthy of equity, mental health and the pure joy of simply being and loving who we are," the L.A. Black Pride description reads.
Organizers say the events for this year are here to find joy in Black queer and trans beauty, intelligence, and achievements.
