L.A. cat cafe brings back popular ‘S**t On Your Ex’ campaign to help animals in need

A Los Angeles cat cafe is inviting you to get revenge on an ex, while helping local animals get the care they need.

The “S**t On Your Ex” campaign is taking place throughout the month of February at Crumbs & Whiskers in Beverly Grove.

The concept is simple: For $5, your ex’s name will be put on a card and placed into a litter box used by the cafe’s cats — then nature will take its course.

Proceeds from the event go toward the organization’s Cat Health Fund, which helps cover the medical bills of adoptable cats.

“We do this every year, and it’s so much fun for our team and for our customers, but more importantly, it does a lot of good,” said Azarea Singh, founder of Crumbs & Whiskers. “The fact that we can provide a sense of closure for so many people while also raising money for animals in need just makes me so happy – it’s what Crumbs & Whiskers is all about.”

The campaign was first launched in February 2017 and has evolved over time, organizers said. It was put on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic but is now once again an annual tradition. Funds from last year’s event were used to ensure bonded cat pairs could be adopted together.

Crumbs & Whiskers was the first cat cafe to take up residence in Los Angeles, it says. The business partners with local animal rescues to help homeless cats and those at risk of euthanasia find permanent homes.

On a normal day, visitors can stop in, purchase a pastry or coffee, and then spend some time with the cats that call the cafe home, all of which are adoptable. Coffee and pastries are all provided through a partnership with Coffee Commissary.

Since the cafe first opened its doors, Crumbs & Whiskers has saved more than 5,000 cats from euthanasia, representatives say. A sister cafe is located in Washington, D.C., and it will also be participating in this Valentine’s closure campaign.

The Los Angeles cafe is located at 7924 Melrose Ave. and opens at 11 a.m. The cafe is closed on Tuesdays.

Tickets range from $25 to $45 depending on the length and type of visit. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are highly encouraged, according to the cafe’s website.
