L.L. Bean to open new Hudson store on Nov. 4. Here's how many workers are needed

HUDSON — L.L. Bean announced Friday that the opening of its ninth Massachusetts retail store, at The Shops at Highland Commons, will occur on Nov. 4 as part of a weekend-long grand opening celebration.

The store, which will cover about 15,000 square feet, will be a flagship tenant at Highland Commons, one of the largest open-air shopping centers in Massachusetts with nearly 1 million square feet of stores and restaurants.

L.L. Bean, which has been in business since 1912, is a privately held maker of outdoor clothing and recreation equipment, based in Freeport, Maine. It started with a single product — a weather-proof boot — before expanding to offer other outdoor apparel and products.

The company first confirmed it was coming to Hudson in May.

In a press release, the retailer said it will employ about 50 team members, and that it's accepting applications, particularly from "outdoor enthusiasts." Those interested can apply on the L.L.Bean careers page.

“As our company celebrates 110 years in business, we are honored to mark that milestone by opening a new retail store in Hudson, Mass.,” said L.L. Bean Vice President of Stores and Retail Operations Corey Bouyea, in a statement. “We’re grateful to our Massachusetts customers who have been pivotal to our continued growth, and we look forward to outfitting them for outdoor adventures for many years to come.”

L.L. Bean officials said the grand opening will feature a range of activities, including an immersive Red Sox experience, gift card and product giveaways, photo opportunities with the L.L.Bean Bootmobile, in-store experiences and more.

Earlier this year, the company reported 2021 net revenue of $1.8 billion, which was 14% higher than the previous year and what executives called "one of the most successful years in company history."

L.L. Bean operates 56 stores in the United States.
