HANOVER – Maine-based outdoor clothing and equipment retailer L.L. Bean's new Hanover location will open Sept. 8, the company has announced.

L.L. Bean will be the latest and one of the biggest additions to Hanover Crossing, the commercial development replacing the old Hanover Mall, which was demolished in 2019.

Market Basket and Showcase Cinemas opened in 2022, followed by Old Navy, Sullivan's Castle Island-Hanover, the 110 Grill and Ryan's Family Amusements, all of which opened in the first half of 2023.

In March, Hanover Crossing Tenant Coordinator Lisa Berardinelli told The Patriot Ledger that L.L. Bean will be one of two anchors at the facility, the other being the Macy's department store.

L.L. Bean has open locations in Dedham's Legacy Place and Boston's Seaport District.

Three other brick-and-mortar L.L. Bean stores, including one in Peabody, are scheduled to open Oct. 6. The company also announced two locations in Quebec.

"We're grateful to be in a position to expand our retail presence," said L.L. Bean President and CEO Stephen Smith in a statement. "Our company purpose (is) to enable people to experience the restorative power of being outside, and these new ventures will ensure we're able to fulfill that purpose for years to come."

L.L. Bean was founded as a mail-order catalog in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean.

During its 110-year history, the company has grown internationally and now has more than 90 stores across the globe. The current expansion follows L.L. Bean's second-highest revenue performance ever, the company said in a news release.
