L-S volleyball sweeps Bears, advances to SICL Silver Quad

Oct. 13—VICTOR — Lynnville-Sully's volleyball team served up 11 aces and got a double-double from Elise Alberts on Monday during its opening match of the South Iowa Cedar League pool-play tournament at HLV High School.

The Hawks swept English Valleys 25-16, 25-21, 30-28 in their first match of the day and then lost to host HLV 25-13, 25-19, 25-20 in the final. The second-place finish sends L-S to Thursday's SICL Silver Quad.

Alberts' 19-assist, 21-dig double-double led the Hawks, while Aubree Arthur put down 13 kills and Alexy Conover collected 35 digs against English Valleys.

Lynnville-Sully (6-23) was 73-of-77 in serves with 11 aces. Alberts finished 17-of-17 with two aces, Natalie Roberts was 16-of-17 with five aces, Conover served up three aces and Carsyn McFarland served 15-of-16.

Abby Squires had six kills and seven digs, Jordan Spooner tallied 15 digs and two kills, McFarland and Roberts each finished with 11 digs and Paige James registered five kills and four digs. James' kill efficiency was .385.

Celia Ricker collected five digs, Arthur chipped in four digs, Morgan Jones had three digs and Conover put down two kills.

Kennedy Axmear led English Valleys (9-15) with 12 kills and 16 digs and Delaney Hall added 12 assists and 12 digs. Axmear's kill efficiency was .440.

Lynnville-Sully plays host Iowa Valley in the first round of the SICL Silver Quad on Thursday in Marengo. BGM and Montezuma open the night at 5 p.m. The two winners face off in the championship.

The SICL East hosts the quad sites this fall. The Gold Quad will be at Belle Plaine and the Bronze Quad is at English Valleys.

In the loss to HLV (16-15), Conover led the Hawks with four kills, four aces and 15 digs, Arthur registered eight kills and five digs and Alberts had 15 assists and five digs.

Majesta Vos finished with four kills, two blocks and two digs, James added two kills and eight digs, Squires had two kills and four digs and Roberts collected four digs and served up four aces. Spooner also finished with two digs.

The Hawks were 50-of-52 in serves with nine aces. Conover served 14-of-14 and Roberts was 11-of-12.

Ema Roberts led HLV with 12 kills and 12 digs.
