Not all hope is lost!

Following the original run of The L Word between 2004 and 2009, Showtime picked up a sequel series, Generation Q, featuring original and new characters living in Los Angeles.

The L Word: Generation Q saw the return of original cast members Jennifer Beals (Bette), Kate Moennig (Shane), and Leisha Hailey (Alice), while introducing new characters like Dani (Arienne Mandi), Gigi (Sepideh Moafi), Micah (Leo Sheng), and Sarah (Jacqueline Toboni).

Unfortunately, the LA-based Generation Q series has now been canceled by Showtime as a part of the premium network’s merger with Paramount+. Other axed shows include American Gigolo, Let the Right One, and Three Women.

Thankfully, fans can remain hopeful that this beloved show isn’t completely dead for the time being. With the merger of Showtime and Paramount+, a lot of spinoffs have been ordered based on successful franchises, which includes a New York-based reboot that is currently under the working title of The L Word: New York.

Other projects getting a greenlight include Billions spinoffs Millions and Trillions, as well as Dexter: Origins.

Based on the description of The L Word: New York, it seems like this new show will be more of a complete reboot rather than mixing up original and new cast members. While that’s not ideal for long-time fans of the franchise, it still means that there’s more L Word content coming our way!

All seasons of The L Word: Generation Q are streaming on Showtime.
