LA City Attorney Announces Charges Against Suspect in Dave Chappelle Attack

Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer announced four misdemeanor charges on May 5 against a man accused of attacking Dave Chappelle during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl on May 3.

Isaiah Lee, 23, was charged with battery, possession of a weapon with intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance, and commissioning an act that delays the event or interferes with the performer, the attorney’s website said.

“This alleged attack has got to have consequences and this afternoon my office has filed charges alleging battery, possession of a weapon with the intent to assault, and charges relating to interfering with a performance. My office takes protecting public safety extremely seriously and we are going to vigorously prosecute this case,” Feuer said in a video statement posted to Twitter.

According to local reports, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said Lee would not face felony charges and referred the case to the LA City Attorney, who prosecutes all misdemeanor criminal offenses in the city. Credit: The Office of Mike Feuer, L.A. City Attorney via Storyful

MIKE FEUER: What should have been an evening of laughter at the Hollywood Bowl this past Tuesday night was suddenly interrupted when suspect Isaiah Lee allegedly charged onto the stage and tackled comedian Dave Chappelle. The suspect allegedly was carrying a weapon.
