La Grange Virus Rate Higher Than Suburban Cook's

LA GRANGE, IL — As of Sunday, La Grange saw a 12 percent increase in coronavirus cases over the previous week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. The number of cases rose 27 to 253. The previous week saw a hike of 19 cases.

The village experienced no new coronavirus deaths in the last week, with the total remaining at 13, the county medical examiner's figures show. That number has stayed the same for weeks.

As of Sunday, La Grange had 16.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, a higher rate than suburban Cook County as a whole, which has a rate of 15.8 per thousand. The figure compares to 7.2 in Darien 7.6 in Western Springs, 7.9 in La Grange Park, 8.5 in Clarendon Hills, 9.6 in Elmhurst, 11 in DuPage County, 11.7 in Burr Ridge and 13.3 in Hinsdale.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 161,575, up 5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,295 state residents.

Nationally, 3.8 million people have caught the virus and 139,659 have died from the disease.
