La Lecheria closing Marcy Street shop, launching food truck

Sep. 12—Get ready for La Lecheria "either 3.5 or 4.0," by the calculations of owner Joel Coleman.

The ice cream shop at 101 W. Marcy St. is closing, likely Sept. 25.

In the meantime, Coleman opened a new long-term primary location May 27 at the Market Station building at the Railyard.

"When we moved to the Railyard, all the production moved over [from Marcy]," Coleman said. "The three months of summer were great at Marcy. The rest of the year, it's a weird location. The biggest weekends are a letdown. We actually lose a lot of foot traffic."

If La Lecheria were an ice cream flavor, it would be hop-scotch, as Coleman has moved around since opening at the Lena Street Lofts in 2016. He shut the Lena Street location in late 2018 when the Marcy Street space was fully up and running.

Just in the past week, La Lecheria 3.5 or 4.0 emerged with the La Lecheria food truck, which Coleman acquired from Backroad Pizza.

"When Marcy opened [in 2018], I was thinking eventually to have a food truck," Coleman said. "We were approached to do events, but I had no way to do it. It's probably not something where we are parking the truck. We're probably going with requests."
