La Quinta girls win Sparta Relays, Blackhawks boys second at event

La Quinta High School’s girls’ track and field team defended its title at the Sparta Relays at San Gorgonio High School on Saturday by winning for the fourth consecutive year.

In addition, the Blackhawks boys’ squad finished second overall against 13 other schools.

The La Quinta girls collected five first-place finishes, including the 4x1,600 relay team of Alina Marie Dom, Saveyra and Raisa Guerrero and Alyssa Lopez in a time of 23 minutes, 42 seconds.

The La Quinta 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay team of Haylie Hutchinson, Emily Domingue, Jessica Rodriguez and Giana Murrell won in 1:15.32.

The distance medley relay team of Alyssa Lopez, Haylie Hutchinson, Rebecca Villa and Madison Miller took first in 13:56.

The 4x800 relay team of Madison Miller, Raisa and Saveyra Guerrero and Taylor Leon won in 10:20.

Haylie Hutchinson, Nazli Perez-Munoz and Summer Slaughter teamed to win the long jump (43-7.75).

For the La Quinta boys, Kameron Hawkins, Alvin Do and Calvin Miller teamed to break a school record in the triple jump of 116 feet, 8 inches.

Enrique Espinosa, Angle Lerena, Juan Bautista and Aiden Brothers won the 4x400 relay in 3:36.72.

La Quinta will compete Saturday in the Saddle Up track meet at Vista Murrieta High School with both frosh soph and varsity divisions.

Boys' golf

Palm Desert 180, La Quinta 237: In their first Desert Empire League match of the year, the Aztecs cruised to a victory at their home course of Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert with an even-par round.

Jacob Kallman and Landon Breisch each fired 35 for Palm Desert, with Luke Ringkamp and Ivan Tran each shooting 36. Cash Tomploes 38 and Christian Baus’ 42 was not counted.

La Quinta was led by Leonardo Perez-Menor at 42, and Tyler Garrison shooting 47, Daxton Westlakes shooting 48, and Sinjin Armstrong and Jordan Duffy both firing 51.

La Quinta 206, Vista Murrieta 219: At SilverRock Resort in La Quinta, the Blackhawks won the non-league contest led by Daxton Westlake’s 39.

Sinjin Armstrong added a 40 for La Quinta, while Tyler Garrison shot 41 and La Quinta had a pair of 43s from Leonardo Perez-Menor and Jordan Duffy.

Shadow Hills 251, Indio 313: In a non-league match, the Knights golf team showed their season potential with a victory in a competition cut short by darkness.

Matthew Herrera and Alex Zuniga carded the low scores for the day at 42 apiece, though final scores were estimated when play was called after seven holes.

Palm Desert in invitational: In the Glendora Varsity Invitational high school tournament, Palm Desert had two three-man teams in the 40-team competition.

The Aztecs team of Luke Ringkamp (74), Caden Breisch (77) and Max Margolis (79) finished third with a team score of 230. The other Palm Desert team finished at 252, consisting of Cash Tompoles (80), Christian Baus (84) and Brandon Wilson (88).

Palo Verde 225, Rancho Mirage 274: The Rattlers fell in the non-league match at Mission Hills North Gary Player course in Rancho Mirage.

Leading the way for Rancho Mirage was Adam Jaquez with a 49. Carlos Jauregui had a 50, while both Gram Craven and Zach Richardson shot 56.  Johnny Castleberry both shot 63 to round out the scoring.
