La Quinta signing day: Three athletes make their college destinations official
La Quinta High School held its third athletes' signing day Monday at the school's main gymnasium, and this time it was an all-female affair.
Three Blackhawks athletes, two wrestlers and one track and cross county runner, officially signed their letters of intent with families, friends and school staff on hand. The schools range from one of the most well-known schools in the world to two smaller colleges far from the Coachella Valley.

Emmi Von Scherr
Sport: Cross country, track
School: United States Military Academy, West Point
What she said (on balancing the West Point duties with athletic demands): "I am just multitasking. Learning time management is like such a big thing there. When I went there to visit, I shadowed a cadet and I saw how they did it. They do work around your schedule as an athlete, so that kind of plays into how busy you are and what duties you have. So that is a big thing there.”

What she said about achieving her goal of college athletics: “My sophomore year I really started to pick things up and I really started to enjoy it. And I think I decided then it was something I wanted to pursue in college, and now I am really excited to be a collegiate athlete. Doing some college research, I found that academically, athletics and location wise it was just going to be the perfect college for me.”

What she said about wrestling beyond high school: "They reached out to me. I didn’t think I would be wrestling at a college level. When that opportunity presented itself, I jumped at it, because I was super excited for it. I had thought about taking a gap year and then I was reached out to by the head of the women's wrestling team and decided against it."
