La Tech football vs. Missouri in Sonny Cumbie debut for Bulldogs: Live score updates
Louisiana Tech football open the 2022 season at Missouri on Thursday, Sept. 1 (7 p.m., ESPNU). The match up is the first for head coach Sonny Cumbie leading the Bulldogs.
Cumbie came from a one year stint at Texas Tech as offensive coordinator and interim head coach for the last five games. Prior to that he spent two seasons at TCU, where quarterback Matthew Downing played for him in 2020.
Downing got the start against the Tigers, the second of his career. Before transferring to Louisiana Tech he spent two years and TCU and one year at Georgia. Downing said that having SEC experience and visiting Memorial Stadium will come in handy when leading the offense against such a big crowd.
"It's going to be really exciting," Downing said. " We've been working really hard for this moment and the guys have been putting in the work all summer and all spring."
This is the first match up between Missouri and Louisiana Tech. Last season the Bulldogs opened at SEC-foe Mississippi State, falling 35-34.
