North Kitsap senior basketball star Jonas La Tour experienced a scoring performance for the ages Tuesday against Bainbridge, breaking one school record and nearly toppling the West Sound mark for most points in a game.

La Tour finished 23 of 27 from the field — making 7 of 10 3-pointers and all four of his free throws — while scoring 57 points in the Vikings' 97-53 victory over the Spartans in Poulsbo.

From shots beyond the arc and isolation plays on the wing to feeds down low, La Tour wasn't missing.

"I just felt really locked in," La Tour said.

The Seattle Pacific University commit broke the school record of 50 points, set by Tim Heins in 1983, and nearly eclipsed the West Sound record of 58 points, set by Russ Scott of North Mason in 1981. In a game against Port Townsend as a junior, Scott finished 24 of 32 from the field and made 10 free throws in a 108-46 victory.

La Tour admitted to being a little tired Tuesday after scoring 28 points in North Kitsap's 81-53 victory over fellow 2A power Sehome on Monday, but it didn't show on the scoresheet against the Spartans. La Tour buried his first four 3-pointers on his way to a 36-point first half. He reached 55 by the end of the third quarter — nailing a deep 3 to pass Heins' 50 — and played a minute into the fourth before being taken out of the game.

"Credit to my teammates for helping me make it happen," La Tour said.

La Tour spoke on the phone with Seattle Pacific men's basketball coach Grant Leap after the game.

"He was kind of at a loss for words," La Tour said.

North Kitsap head coach Scott Orness said he was grateful to witness La Tour's historic performance.

"At times I forgot I was coaching and I was just watching in awe," Orness said. "I'm so glad it happened to such a great young man and I was ecstatic about how excited his teammates were for him."

North Kitsap improved to 12-2 overall and 7-0 in Olympic League 2A play. The Vikings, who won the Class 2A state title in 2020, play on the road at Sequim on Thursday and at Port Angeles on Saturday.

With 1,357 career points, La Tour is 300 points behind North Kitsap's career scoring leader, Jerry Hogan, who played from 1986-90. It's a mark within La Tour's reach, especially if the Vikings embark on a deep playoff run next month, but also a record he's not focused on. His top priority is state championship No. 2.

"That's all that matters," La Tour said. "That's all that mattered for me the whole season.
