Labette Community College Celebrates National Qualified Wrestlers with Sendoff

PARSONS, KS – Labette Community College wrestling is headed for nationals in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Students, staff, and children from nearby schools celebrated 10 Cardinal wrestlers on Wednesday afternoon. One wrestler, Matthew Marcum, is ranked as the top wrestler in junior college competition. Marcum will join the group of 10 All-Americans competing in the national tournament.

“We’ve trained all year for this, and now the time has finally come,” Marcum said.

“A lot of hard work has been put into this, and it’s great we are able to send off our whole team.”

Marcum will be lead by Jeff Vesta, a recent recipient of coach of the year. Vesta said he thinks the sendoff highlighted his group’s hard work.

“It’s all just really good for our guys,” Vesta said.

“It lets them know that people appreciate their hard work and all the time they put in.”

Nationals for the 10 wrestlers will begin on Friday, March 1st in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
