The previous record for triple-digit days was 62 set in 1994. The record is likely to be broken several more times this week, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Tuesday’s high is expected to drop to a comparatively cool 97, before hitting 100 or more Wednesday through Saturday, according to the forecast. That’s about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year.

If the forecast pans out, El Paso also will smash the record for most 100-degree days in the month of September. The current record is four such days in 1959 and 1979.

El Paso has shattered heat records this summer, including 44 straight days of 100 or more from mid-June through the end of July. July was the hottest month on record in El Paso.
