Labor Day weekend forecast for Cape Cod: Will it be beach weather?

Time seems to speed up at the end of the summer. You realize that you had better grab all the sun and fun you can before Jack Frost stuffs you in a sweater and scratchy wool socks. Thank goodness we have the big Labor Day weekend to savor all the delights of the sweet season on Cape Cod before the chilly winds blow.

And so we turn to the weather gods and goddesses, hoping that they will send us an awesome stretch of days. After all, we deserve it. Give us a great Labor Day weekend to charge up our batteries, and we can cheerfully face the fall and winter ahead.

Well, friends, the weather news looks pretty good for the holiday weekend. "The theme is really a dry stretch of weather," said Frank Nocera, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Boston/Norton office in a phone interview with the Times. "The other trend is a gradual warming trend."

A sunny stretch of days is in store starting on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service forecast for Cape Cod. Nocera said Saturday will be a transition day, when temperatures will start to rise, bringing a summer feeling to the region. High temperatures on Sunday and Monday will rise into the upper 70s on the Cape, with temperatures soaring into the 80s farther inland.

The stretch of warm days could also continue after Labor Day, said Nocera. Perhaps that might inspire folks to add a few extra days to the long weekend. A bonus to that kind of planning is that many Cape Cod beaches don't require a sticker or entrance fee after the holiday.
