Apr. 14—MADISON — The Lac qui Parle Valley School Board has voted to hire a new superintendent.

At a Monday meeting, the board voted to hire Ivan Hirst, currently the high school principal and athletic director at Roseau Community Schools.

The board will be negotiating a contract with Hirst, according to a news release. The contract could be approved at the April 26 regular board meeting.

Hirst is in his 22nd year of education. He was a high school math teacher for nine years and has been a principal for the last 12 years, according to the Roseau school's website. He is a high school graduate of Marshall County Central in Newfolden in northwest Minnesota.

Hirst is expected to start working in the district on July 1. He will succeed Superintendent Greg Schmidt.
