Lacey's Spring man one of two motorcyclists killed in weekend crashes

Jul. 25—A Lacey's Spring man died Sunday night when his motorcycle struck a pickup truck in Morgan County.

James Russell Lasater, 48, was declared dead at the scene of the crash, on U.S. 231 at Kennemer Drive about 2 miles south of Lacey's Spring, according to state troopers and the Morgan County Sheriff's Office. Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn said Lasater died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest areas.

Lasater was driving a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which struck a 2014 Ford F-150 also driven by a Lacey's Spring man.

It was the second fatal motorcycle accident in the area over the weekend, according to troopers.

On Saturday evening, Rafael D. Marchen, 55, of Haleyville, died after his Yamaha V-Star motorcycle collided with a 2014 BMW Mini Cooper on Alabama 33 in Lawrence County, about 5 miles south of Moulton.

Both wrecks remain under investigation, troopers said.
