Lacon, Illinois loses its only pharmacy in CVS. Here's what it means for residents

CVS has shut down another store in central Illinois.

The Lacon CVS at 415 Fifth St. closed Nov. 3.

“I feel sorry for some of the elderly people here, who this is the only place to go,” resident Rick Cordis said. “Now they have to go either clear to Chillicothe or Henry.”

Prescriptions will be transferred to 808 University Ave. in Henry, according to Amy Thibault, a spokeswoman for CVS.

The CVS location in Henry is nearly 9 miles away from the Lacon location. The next closest store, in Chillicothe, is 11 miles away.

“Our teams continue to provide the community with outstanding service at these locations,” Thibault said via email.

Patients with an Aetna Better Health plan through HealthChoice Illinois can choose to have prescriptions moved to another in-network pharmacy, according to Thibault’s press statement. Customers can also look into home delivery through CVS.

For Cordis, it is sad to see businesses shut their doors to the Lacon community.

“You just hate to see it fail in a small town,” Cordis said.

The pharmacy chain announced last November its plan to close around 300 stores annually starting this year. In August, CVS closed a location in north Peoria.
