Laconia, Fond du Lac hang on to top spots in high school basketball rankings

Here is the latest edition of the Oshkosh Northwestern/Fond du Lac Reporter high school basketball rankings. Rankings are "pound-for-pound" based on success and enrollment/division size.

GIRLS

1, Laconia (20-3): Spartans hang on to No. 1 ranking and have won two games in a row since losing to Winnebago Lutheran last week. Next: Friday at Campbellsport.

2, Winnebago Lutheran (20-3): Vikings have won seven games in a row and are tied with Laconia at 12-1 in the Flyway. Next: Friday at St. Mary's Springs.

3, Lourdes Academy (19-3): Knights beat Wautoma 63-44 on Monday and move up a spot in the rankings. Hailee Bauer (15.8) and Delaney Ruedinger (9.7) lead the team in scoring. Next: Thursday at Wayland Academy.

4, Waupun (17-7): Warriors clinch East Central Conference and complete their regular season. Kayl Petersen leads the team in scoring (20.9) and rebounds (11.3) heading into the postseason. Next: WIAA playoffs, TBA.

5, Oshkosh West (15-8): Wildcats knock off Appleton West 57-52 on the road last Friday. Junior forward Braelee Jodarski is second on the team in scoring (9.1) and leads in rebounds (6.5). Next: Thursday at Appleton North.

Others: Oakfield (17-5), Fond du Lac (13-10), St. Mary's Springs (13-10), Omro (13-9), Central Wisconsin Christian (15-7).

BOYS

1, Fond du Lac (17-5): Cardinals clinch a share of the Fox Valley Association title with 63-58 victory over Hortonville on Tuesday. Next: Friday vs. Appleton North.

2, St. Mary's Springs (19-2): Ledgers still a game ahead of Campbellsport in Flyway Conference standings. Team is coming off 86-42 victory over Waupun. Next: Thursday at Lomira.

3, Oshkosh North (15-7): Spartans led in scoring by one of the state's top 1-2 combos: Steven Clark (23.8) and Xzavion Mitchell (22.4). Next: Friday at Kaukauna.

4, Campbellsport (15-4): Cougars on six-game winning streak and are led in scoring and rebounding by 6-foot-5 senior forward Mitchell McCarty (21.1 ppg, 13.3 rpg). Next: Thursday vs. Laconia.

5, Central Wisconsin Christian (19-2): Will Syens leads Crusaders in scoring (14.8) and assists (2.7) with Brock Hoekstra second in scoring (10.8) and first in rebounds (7.8). Next: Friday vs. Wayland Academy.

Others: Omro (14-7), Winneconne (16-5), Berlin (12-10), Oakfield (13-7), Laconia (11-10).
