Watch a movie under the stars, shop for new crafts, or support the LGBTQ community at events happening in Springfield this weekend.

Looking for something to do? Here are five events to attend:

The Color Purple Musical

Watch a story of hope in "The Color Purple," a musical presented by the Springfield Theatre Centre this weekend.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and  2 p.m. Sunday at the Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 S. Sixth St.

"The Color Purple" follows the life of Celie, a young woman whose strength in adversity helps her discover her unique voice. The musical is based on Alice Walker's 1982 novel of the same name and its 1985 film adaptation.

Tickets are $18 for students and seniors. They are $20 for adults.

Movies in the Park

The Springfield Park District will show "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" on Friday as part of its free Movies in the Park series.

The movie can be seen at the Velasco Tennis Center, 1501  S. Grand Ave West, at sunset, around  8 p.m.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is a superhero film starring Letitia Wright and is based on a Marvel comic. In the movie, three leaders fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of the death of their king. It also stars Angela Bassett, and Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Tenoch Huerta, and Lake Bell.

Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Concessions will be available.

Old Capitol Art Fair

Shop for new crafts at the 61st Annual Springfield Old Capital Art Fair on Saturday.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Old Capitol Art Plaza, 526 E. Adams St.

Local, regional, and national artists will be present and there will be live music.

Food and drinks will be available to purchase.

Springfield Pridefest

Support the LGBTQ community of Springfield at Pridefest on Saturday.

A parade will start the celebration at 11:30 a.m. on Fifth and Allen Streets and travel north to Fifth and American Legion Drive. At noon, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a performance by the Springfield Men's Chorus.

The main stage of the show will feature performances from Blue Ribbon Revival at 12:30, Jack Ash at 2 p.m. and the Shenanigans at 4 p.m. The event will bring together over 100 vendors, food trucks, and activities from face painting, a petting zoo, selfie station and games.

A drag show starring Mahogany Knight and the Knight Family will conclude the show at 7:30 p.m.

Fantastical Folk Jam

Listen to all kinds of local music and bring your own instruments to play at the Fantastical Folk Jam on Sunday.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. at Buzz Bomb Brewing Company, 406 E. Adams St.

Country, Americana, Folk and Bluegrass favorites will be featured. Food and drinks will be available to purchase.
