Lady Chaps finish No. 11, No. 19 in national rankings

Lubbock Christian University finished No. 11 in the final D2SIDA poll and No. 19 in the last Women's Basketball Coaches Association ranking.

The Lady Chaparrals finished 28-7, losing in the championship game of the South Central Regional, which is the round of 16 in the Division II NCAA Tournament.

D2SIDA is the Division II Sports Information Directors of America. Its final ranking was released Saturday after Glenville State beat Western Washington for the national championship. The WBCA final poll was released Monday.

LCU softball

Lubbock Christian University dropped seven spots to No. 17 in the weekly National Fastpitch Coaches Association ranking released Tuesday.

The Lady Chaps (26-6) were swept Friday in a doubleheader against then-No. 21 Texas A&M-Commerce and then split two on Sunday with then-No. 1 UT Tyler.

UT Tyler dropped to No. 2 in the poll, and Texas A&M-Commerce moved up to No. 9. Other Lone Star Conference teams in the NFCA ranking this week are No. 12 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 14 Angelo State, No. 20 West Texas A&M and No. 22 Oklahoma Christian.

St. Mary's was second among others receiving votes.

LCU plays conference doubleheaders at 3 p.m. Friday against Texas Woman's in Denton and at noon Sunday against Midwestern State in Wichita Falls.

Golf

BULLARD — Lubbock-Cooper graduate Zach Burch, now playing for Texas A&M-Commerce, finished third in the stroke-play portion of the King-Alfred Invitational, a two-day event at Eagle's Bluff Country Club that concluded Tuesday.

Burch finished even par on the par-71 course after rounds 74, 72 and 67.

Lubbock Christian University's Jeff Maciejewski (72-68-76) tied for seventh at 3 over par, and the Chaps' Braxton Floyd (73-72-76) tied for 15th at 8-over.

Rounding out the Chaps' lineup were Jake Bowen (74-75-83), Tiann de Jager (80-76-80) and Jackson Comer (79-82-84). Frenship graduate Tripp Wallace of Texas A&M-Commerce shot 76-74-83.
