Lubbock Christian University opens the Lone Star Conference women's basketball tournament against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday in Frisco.

No. 4 seed LCU (21-9) and No. 5 seed A&M-Kingsville (18-10), coached by former Lady Chaps assistant Michael Madrid, tip off at 8:30 p.m. The Comerica Center is the site of the entire LSC women's and men's tournaments.

In their lone regular-season meeting, the Lady Chaps beat the Javelinas 76-61 in a Dec. 10 road game. Thursday's winner advances to a tournament semifinal at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against No. 1 seed Texas Woman's (24-4) or No. 8 seed St. Edward's (14-16). The latter two square off at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Thursday's other first-round games pit No. 3 seed UT Tyler (23-6) against No. 6 West Texas A&M (21-9) at noon and No. 2 seed Angelo State (22-6) against No. 7 seed Cameron (13-15) at 2:30 p.m.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Tresha Yager scored 17 points and Southwestern Christian beat Wayland Baptist on Tuesday night to win the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament and earn an automatic berth in the NAIA Tournament, both firsts for the program.

Christina Jenkins, Delaney Reimer and Jayden Mason added 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively, for SCU (17-13), the No. 6 seed.

Jenna Cooper-Jackson and Kaitlyn Edgemon scored 23 and 13 points, respectively, for Wayland (21-10), which had won the previous four SAC tournaments. The Flying Queens are expected to receive an at-large berth in the 64-team NAIA Tournament. The pairings and 16 host sites for the first two rounds will be announced Thursday.

Tech softball

Texas Tech, after opening the season with 17 consecutive games away, is home for the first time for the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic at Rocky Johnson Field.

Tech (12-5) hosts North Dakota (1-13) at 5 p.m. Thursday. On both Friday and Saturday, the Red Raiders take on Rutgers (12-3) at 3 p.m. and Seton Hall (4-5) at 5:30 p.m.

SPC basketball

South Plains College will try to win the Western Junior College Athletic Conference championship outright when the Lady Texans visit Midland College at 5:45 p.m. Thursday in the first game of a women's/men's doubleheader at the Chaparral Center.

South Plains (17-9, 11-2) leads New Mexico Junior College (21-5, 10-3) by one game with Thursday's WJCAC games being regular-season finales. Midland (11-16, 6-7) has been eliminated from NJCAA Region V tournament consideration.

The 22nd-ranked South Plains men (22-7, 10-5) and Midland (23-6, 9-6) square off at 7:30 p.m. They're battling with Howard College (19-10, 9-6) for third place in the conference. Howard plays at No. 3 Odessa College (27-2, 14-1), which has clinched the WJCAC title.
