Lady Chaps outlast Angelo State in 13 innings
TYLER — Tyla Lee's infield single in the 13th inning brought home Savannah Wysocki with the winning run as No. 4 seed Lubbock Christian University edged No. 5 seed Angelo State 6-5 Thursday in the first round of the NCAA South Central Region 1 softball tournament.
Lee's base hit to shortstop came with no outs and the bases loaded.
Wysocki and Tiarra Delrosario led off the inning with singles, Delrosario's a bunt hit, and they moved up on wild pitch. Rams pitcher Genesis Armendariz (19-6) then walked Brooke Makemson to load the bases.
Wysocki finished 5 for 7 with two runs scored, and Delrosario went 3 for 7. The Lady Chaps piled up 17 hits off Armendariz, who pitched a complete game, including two each from Lee, Kasey Flores and Athena Muniz.
Taylor Franco (20-4) got the win with 6 1/3 innings in relief of starter Maxine Valdez. Franco allowed one run on four hits.
LCU (38-10) will play in the championship bracket final at 1 p.m. Friday against host UT Tyler (42-5), which is ranked No. 1 and the regional's top seed. The Patriots won their first-round game 8-0 over Colorado Christian (49-9), which is led by former LCU and Texas Tech coach Larry Hays.
Paxton Scheurer hit a two-run homer for Angelo State (38-11), giving the Belles a 3-2 lead in the top of the third, and Muniz answered with a two-run double in the bottom of the third.
Angelo State's Mykayla Stroud tied the game 4-4 with a single in the seventh. Each team scored a run in the 12th.
The win was LCU's third all-time in 12 games against Angelo State.
