Lady Cobras roll to sweep

Mar. 6—LENOIR — Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute's softball team recorded a double-header sweep of Florence-Darlington on Sunday at Optimist Park.

The Lady Cobras prevailed 17-4 in the opener and 3-2 in the finale.

Isabelle Curry struck out 11 over five innings in game one. She didn't yield an earned run or walk and was touched for two hits. Curry also belted a solo home run, as Caldwell earned the mercy rule decision.

Christa Walsh batted 3 for 3 with a homer, double and three RBIs. Zoey Boston delivered a two-run homer, while Regan Winkler and Sydney Ferguson each plated runs.

That win snapped a five-game losing skid for the Lady Cobras.

Kaylee Redwine got Caldwell rolling in the finale with a solo homer Boston doubled, while Winker and Ferguson each plated runners.

This was Caldwell's second double-header sweep of a NJCAA Division 1 opponent this season.

The Lady Cobras (0-11) travel to Myrtle Beach to face Bryant-Stratton (Ohio) with first pitch at 3 on Wednesday. Bay College awaits at 7 that evening.

Florence-Darlington dropped to 11-8.
