Lady Gaga has been tipped for a surprise appearance at this year's Oscars, despite it being previously reported that she wouldn't be attending the event. She'll perform her Oscar-nominated song 'Hold My Hand' from Top Gun: Maverick at this year's ceremony.

The 95th Academy Awards had invited all five Best Original Song nominees to perform, but executive producer and showrunner Glenn Weiss had previously confirmed that Lady Gaga was unable to accept due to scheduling conflicts with her upcoming film, Joker: Folie à Deux.

"We invited all five," he explained during a recent press conference (via The Hollywood Reporter). "We have great relationship with Lady Gaga, but she is in the middle of shooting a movie."

"It didn’t feel like she could get a performance to the calibre that she is used to, so she isn’t going to perform at the show."

However, Oscars insiders have said (via Variety) that Gaga will perform after all.

The songs that will be performed during the ceremony are 'Applause' from Tell It Like a Woman, 'Lift Me Up' from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, 'Naatu Naatu' from RRR, and 'This Is a Life' from Everything Everywhere All at Once.

For 'This Is a Life's performance, Best Supporting Actress nominee Stephanie Hsu will be stepping in for Mitski, who originally featured on the track alongside David Byrne and Son Lux.

Aside from seeing Gaga perform at the Oscars, a first look at the star as Harley Quinn in the upcoming Joker sequel was unveiled last month.

Gaga will star opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who reprises his Oscar-winning role as Joker/Arthur Fleck.

Margot Robbie, who played a live-action Harley the Suicide Squad films and Birds of Prey, previously shared her joy over Gaga taking on the role.

"It's such an honour to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing, and I think she'll do something incredible with it," she said.

Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled for cinemas on October 4, 2024. Joker is available to buy on Blu-ray or streaming now.
