Lady Hornets pick up road win, ESU men fall at Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. (KSNT) – Saturday’s doubleheader between the Hornets and Hillcats on the court resulted in a split decision.

ESU began the day with a win for its women’s basketball team. Rogers State’s three-quarters-court buzzer beater served as moot as the Lady Hornets topped the home team 79-77. The victory snaps a four-game skid for Emporia State. Faith Paramore led all scorers with 21 points while Gracie Gilpin pitched in with 18.

KU dominates No. 4 Houston with balanced attack

The Lady Hornets shot north of 50% from the field (26-for-48) and from beyond the arc (9-for-17) en route to their seventh conference win of the year. The record, for first-year head coach Brian Ostermann’s team, improves to 7-8 in the MIAA and 10-11 overall.

The ESU men’s team didn’t complete the sweep. Doty’s squad fell 83-76, a loss that drops the Hornets below .500 in conference play. The record now stands at 14-9 overall and 7-8 in the MIAA.

Both Emporia State basketball teams return home for Feb. 7 contests with Northwest Missouri State.
