Lady Hounds soccer picks up 2-1 road win against Fairview; Lakeview girls 2nd at Rocky Grove Invite

Oct. 17—GIRLS SOCCER

* Wilmington 2, Fairview 1 — At Fairview Saturday, the Region 1 Lady Hounds improved to 12-3 with the win over the Lady Tigers (7-7) of Region 4.

Lindsey Martineau opened the scoring for Wilmington when she fielded a punt from goalkeeper Taylor Kendall and dribbled through the Fairview defense to score.

Fairview tied the match 1-all early in the 2nd half on a direct kick from Lily Sanders.

The Hounds secured the win when Becka Book took an errant cross and booted the ball to Reese Walker near the penalty spot. Walker buried the shot inside the left post and Wilmington held on for the win.

Taylor Kendall made 12 saves in goal for the Lady Hounds to go along with her assist.

Fairview goalie Maisee Carrier registered 7 saves in the loss.

CROSS COUNTRY

Rocky Grove Invitational

Conneaut Area (71 points) boys and the Titusville girls (123) captured the team titles at Saturday's Rocky Grove Invitational at Two Mile Run County Park in Franklin.

The Lakeview girls finished with 134 points to place 2nd behind Titusville. Cranberry (138) was 3rd and Slippery Rock (157) placed 4th. Mercer (488) finished 19th.

In the race for the boys team title, Rocky Grove (109), Cranberry (117), North East (191), and Punxsutawney (203) rounded out the top 5. Slippery Rock (359) was 12th and Mercer (652) finished 25th.

Jamestown freshman Karis McElhaney led the locals with a 3rd-place finish in 21:34. Franklin's Nadalie Latchaw (21:22) captured the individual title and Warren Area's Katie Beyer (21:30) was runner-up.

Lakeview's Kady Alexander (22:12) and Abby Mellon (22:33) placed 7th and 14th, respectively. Greenville's Megan Ickes finished 24th in 23:03 and Slippery Rock's Tessa Szymanski clocked in at 23:04 to place 25th.

Coudersport sophomore Kevin Sherry (17:39) won the boys race and Cranberry's Matt Woolcock (18:16) placed 2nd.

Lakeview junior Colson Jenkins (19:22) led the locals by placing 18th and Slippery Rock sophomore Viktor Zahn (19:35) finished 25th.
