Lady Indians split day one of home festival

Sep. 17—Comanche hoped to come home and get back to its winning ways, but ended with a split on day one of the Lady Indians' home festival after losing to Cache in extra innings and beating Empire.

Game one saw both Comanche and Cache go scoreless to open up the Comanche Festival until the first extra inning during which Cache took the lead and never looked back to win 4-2.

Empire took the lead early in the first inning, however Comanche bounced back and scored six runs to win 6-1 and make it the Lady Indians' 20th victory of the 2022 season.

Cache kept Comanche off the hit category until the bottom of the sixth when Josey Harris led off with a single to try and get the first offense of the game.

Harris was picked off on a would-be stolen base attempt. It sent them to the seventh inning trying to get a run before going into the extra innings rule.

Neither team gott a base runner in the seventh inning to force the international tie breaker rule in the top of the eighth with a runner automatically put on second base.

Cache got another base runner on with the Lady Bulldogs' player getting hit by a pitch when they laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runners over to second and third.

On the very next play, Cache's number two hitter hit a three-run home run to get the first runs of the game with an error scoring a fourth run later to take the 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the eighth.

Gracee Miller hit a single to right field for Comanche's second hit of the game to drive in Bre Gill to cut the lead to 4-1 in favor of Cache.

A fly out and an error brought Miller into score as the lead was cut to 4-2, however Cache got the final out on a pop up in the infield to secure the win for the visiting team.

Getting a couple of hours off before the next game, the Lady Indians went down 1-0 when Stephanie Millan from Empire hit a double to score the first run of the game before Comanche's offense got jumpstarted.

Miller was hit by the pitch after a line out got the first out of the bottom of the second when the senior shortstop stole second while Jentry Whaley was at-bat looking for a spark.

Whaley hit a towering shot to left field in the evening hours at Comanche to take the 2-1 lead over Empire and added some insurance runs in the bottom half of the third.

Two walks and an error later, Comanche had the bases loaded. Miller came up to bat and hit a double on the first pitch to clear the bases and give the Lady Indians the 5-1 lead.

Whaley came up after the double and hit a single to score Miller with Comanche securing the victory which put them at 20 wins for the season.

Day two of the Comanche Festival will kick off today, Saturday, Sept. 17 with the first game for the Lady Indians taking place at 10 a.m. against Marlow and the second game playing at 4 p.m. Sept. against Walters High School.
