Lady Indians split pivotal district games

Sep. 15—The Comanche Lady Indians softball team will need a little help to clinch a district title now after they split pivotal district games to start off one of the final weeks of the regular season.

The Comanche Lady Indians, now 19-7 on the season and 10-1 in district play, were named the DSPAC Team of the Week after winning 6-3 over Kingston and then dropping a road game against Lindsay 6-0.

In the home game against Kingston, which is currently third in the district, the two teams went three innings with no score until Comanche got on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

A lead off double from Bre Gill started the action in the bottom of the fourth followed up by senior Gracee Miller, who came up and only needed one pitch herself to get the Lady Indians on the board.

Miller's double scored Gill to take the 1-0 lead with Kingston tying the game up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth before Comanche's offense took the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning.

Kamrey Rendon only needed one pitch to figure out Kingston in the bottom of the fifth. She hit a solo home run to break the tie and put the Lady Indians up 2-1 in the game.

A single from Josey Harris a few batters later drove in two runs and extended the lead to 4-1 with Comanche's final two runners coming in on the bat of Jentry Whaley.

Whaley hit a ground ball to third base, which was misplayed by the fielder to bring in two runners and put Comanche up 6-1 over Kingston.

A double in the top of the sixth put the final scoring line at 6-3 with Comanche holding off Kingston in the top of the seventh with two fly outs and a strikeout to end the game.

Rendon, the pitcher of record, went all seven innings and gave up three hits and three runs while striking out nine batters and walking one in the victory over Kingston.

Needing one victory to clinch the district title, Lindsay got off to a fast start by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back as they got the 6-0 victory over Comanche.

Comanche had four hits on offense as Gill, Whaley, Mykayla Slovak and Raylee Chaney had the hits for the Lady Indians in the game against Lindsay.

The Lady Indians still have a chance to clinch a district title, however they will need help as Lindsay holds the immediate tiebreaker with the run differential in their favor.

Lindsay has three district games left while Comanche has one district game left in the 2022 season to determine final standings for Class 3A-2 district play.

The next games for Comanche will feature their own Comanche Festival on Thursday and Saturday of this week.

The Lady Indians will play two games. They start at 10 a.m. Sept. 15 against Cache with the second game taking place at around 7 p.m. Sept. 15 against Wynnewood.

The regular hours for DSPAC are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday with fees varying for day passes and memberships. The park is located at 400 W. Martin Luther King Blvd. in Duncan. Calls can be directed to 580-467-7877.
