Our Lady of the Lake food services vendor laying off 200 workers when contract expires

A company that provided food services to the Our Lady of the Lake System in Baton Rouge is laying off nearly 200 workers at the end of May when the company’s contract with the system expires.

Morrison Healthcare is laying off 196 employees across three hospitals in the Baton Rouge area since the company lost its food service contract with Our Lady of the Lake. Morrison submitted a notice to the Louisiana Workforce Commission outlining the layoffs as part of the federal Wage Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN.

Morrison said in its notice that it “reasonably anticipate(s)” that most of the laid off employees will be hired by the vendor taking over the contract. The company said it is laying off workers at the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, the Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, and Our Lady of the Lake Ascension in Gonzales.

The bulk of the laid-off workers are patient dining associates, cooks, food service workers and shift supervisors, according to the notice.
