'The Diary of Anne Frank'

The Bay Street Players' production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” is onstage at the State Theatre through Nov. 13.

The new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman draws from previously unpublished parts of Anne Frank’s diary.

From "The Diary of Anne Frank."
From "The Diary of Anne Frank."

“From 1942–1944, the Frank and Van Daan families hid in a secret annex above Otto Frank’s former office in Amsterdam as the Nazis deported the Jews of occupied Holland to their deaths. In her secret attic, Anne Frank, played by Mikaela Cohen, comes of age. She laughs, plays, fights with her mother, and falls in love for the first time. In spite of her oppressive circumstances and the horrors that surround her, Frank’s spirit transcends as she voices her belief that in spite of everything, people are truly good at heart,” according to a Bay Street Players press release.

David Clevinger is the director and designer of the production.

Along with Cohen, the cast includes Stephanie Adams, Simon Atkinson, Steven Behncke, Mitch Bozeman, Adam Cornett, Denice Glickler, Mary Juravle and Jaims Stutts.

The two student performances have sold out and another student performance has been added at 11 a.m. Nov. 7. Following the performance a question and answer opportunity is available with the cast and director.

Friday’s performance will be interpreted in American Sign Language.
