Lady Mules square record at 1-1 with 47-44 triumph over Slaton

Nov. 12—SLATON, Texas — Muleshoe's girls built a 47-44 halftime lead on Tuesday and held on late for a 47-44 victory over Slaton, squaring their early-season record at 1-1.

Senior Kylie Hernandez scored 13 point to lead a balanced Muleshoe attack. Meantime, junior Ariana Aguilar and sophomore Kam Barera paced the Lady Tigers (0-2) with 13 points apiece.

On Nov. 5, the Lady Mules opened the season with a 48-44 loss at Hale Center. Hernandez had 12 points for Muleshoe in that one, while senior Areceli Diaz chipped in 11.

Sophomores Jaydee Castillo with 14 points and Jazzlynn Garcia with 11 topped the Lady Owls.

Canyon 62, Farwell 32 — At Canyon, the Lady Blue took on one of the storied large-school programs in Texas in Tuesday's season opener. Farwell hung with the Lady Eagles for most of a half, but Canyon broke it open with a 15-0 run to start the third period.

Amarillo San Jacinto 35, Bovina 26 — The Fillies led 15-12 at the quarter, but scored only three points in the second stanza as the host Lady Patriots (1-1) took control.

The Fillies (0-2) got six points each from Aaliyah Lara and Idaly Garcia. San Jacinto (1-1) was led by eight and seven points, respectively, from sophomores Mikee McReynolds and Alana Signor.

In its opener on Nov. 5, Bovina dropped a 77-36 decision at New Home.

CHS sets Wildcat Bash — Clovis High plans to introduce its 2022-23 basketball teams during the "Wildcat Bash," scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday at The Rock.

Food will be provided, according to a release. Guests will include players from Gattis, Marshall and Yucca Middle Schools, as well as the CHS Wildcadettes, cheerleaders and band.
