Lady Railers Soccer break school record

The Lady Railer Soccer team had a plan at the beginning of the season with the goal to break a school record and after several attempts they accomplished their goal.

Todd Mouring, assistant coach, said they continued with their mission with the #MakeHistory campaign.

"Despite some bumps, injuries and some coulda, woulda, shoulda’s along the way, these girls wrote a fantastic ending. We closed our regular season with a 2-1 victory over East Peoria," wrote Mourning.

The game opened with the LCHS Lady Railers Soccer team possessing the ball easily. A mis-step in the middle allowed East Peoria to put in a long shot over the jumping Kathryn Slack. Despite many shots, the half ended 1-0 with Lincoln down.

Head Coach Beth Rayman reminded the players that it was up to them if they wanted to make history.

"Your only option is to win, go do it," she said.

The second half opened with renewed energy. A couple minutes in, Chloe Vinyard sent a ball in to Hattie Mourning who tipped it past a defender and was alone with the keeper. Mourning beat her and the game was tied at 1-1.

A minute or so later, Gianna Massena sent a ball to Mourning who again beat the Raider goalkeeper. Railers went up 2-1.

Autumn Dunovsky, Chloe Vinyard and Peyton Merreighn stepped up to help the defense and still press the offense.

"Our defensive line was again solid. Kathryn Slack continues to be really good in goal," wrote Mourning.

Railers won 2-1 and set the team record for wins in a season with nine.

Rayman, who was a player on that team that set that record to beat was proud of the new record.

"Girls, you wrote your names on the board. Congrats," she told her players.

Railer Boys Soccer Coach Tim Stuckey shared a memory on Facebook about breaking the record.

"Actually, I remember it well. 2006 was the year we got eight wins. Coach Rayman was a sophomore that year, and I believe she and Ali Adolophson were leading scorers with 11 goals each," wrote Stuckey.

The following players were recognized at the end of the year Lady Railer Soccer banquet.
