The 2021-22 Pennsylvania Sportswriters’ All-State Boys Basketball Team for Class 2A was released Wednesday, after the Class 1A squad was released Tuesday.

Two players from the Beaver Valley — senior guard Jake DiMichele and senior forward Dawson Summers of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart — received all-state honors in Class 2A.

DiMichele was a first-team selection and was unanimously voted Class 2A Player of the Year, while Summers was a second-team selection. OLSH head coach Mike Rodriguez, following his 14th year at the helm for the Chargers, was voted the Class 2A Coach of the Year. No Beaver Valley players made the Class 1A team.

Here is a little bit more on the three Beaver Valley all-state honorees for Class 2A:

First Team

Jake DiMichele, OLSH (senior, G)

DiMichele’s sensational play was a key reason why OLSH went on to make history. The 6-foot-3 senior guard averaged 31.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and three assists per game to lead the 28-0 Chargers to a second consecutive PIAA title, fourth consecutive WPIAL title and a PIAA-record-tying 68th consecutive victory. One of the best scorers in the state, DiMichele finished his high school career as the WPIAL’s second all-time leading scorer with 2,652 career points. This also marks the three-time Beaver County Times High School Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year’s second consecutive PIAA Class 2A Player of the Year honor.

Second Team

Dawson Summers, OLSH (senior, F)

Often flying under the radar, Summers played a crucial role in helping OLSH have one of the most dominant seasons in PIAA history. The 6-foot-4 senior forward averaged 12.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.2 blocks per game to anchor the frontcourt for the 28-0 Chargers on their way to winning a second consecutive PIAA title.

The orchestrator of OLSH’s magical run, 14th-year head coach Mike Rodriguez has been named the Class 2A Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. Rodriguez led the Chargers to a 28-0 record, marking the second season in a row his group finished undefeated after it ended the 2020-21 campaign with a 24-0 record. Of course, under his guidance, OLSH also captured a second consecutive PIAA title, fourth consecutive WPIAL title and a PIAA-record-tying 68th consecutive victory.
