Lafayette breaks ground on downtown playground at Parc Sans Souci

Downtown Lafayette Unlimited announced the official groundbreaking of the Playground at Parc Sans Souci.

Located in downtown Lafayette, the new 6,000-square-foot inclusive and accessible playground will cost nearly $1 million. Upon completion of the playground, remaining private funds will go toward offsetting maintenance costs for the playground.

The playground includes equipment from Berliner Seilfabrik — a leading manufacturer for playgrounds across the world — and will be designed to accommodate children of all ages and with different abilities, according to Anita Begnaud, CEO of DLU and the Downtown Development Authority.

"The new playground will be easily accessible for wheelchairs and people with walkers," Begnaud said. "The park will also include various play equipment that can be used by everyone."

In bringing to life the vision of a playground for downtown, DLU turned to its network of supporters and business leaders who are passionate about investing in downtown development and in creating quality-of-life amenities for the Lafayette community to enjoy in the heart of the city.

“This playground will serve as a space for families within our community to enjoy together," Begnaid said. "A space for children of all abilities and ages to explore their imaginations. DLU has supported the revitalization of downtown Lafayette for more than 40 years. We need your support so we can continue to bring our community together in downtown and build a stronger city center for all of Lafayette.”

The playground’s construction is anticipated to be substantially complete by March 31, 2024, in time for a busy spring series of events in downtown.

A remaining $12,000 is needed to bring the project to full completion. To learn how to help, visit downtownlafayette.org/donate.
