Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market Celebrates their 10th Anniversary

Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market announced its10th anniversary Saturday, June 10, at Moncus Park.

This celebration will mark the induction of the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market into Fête Internationale des Marches, making it the first market in the United States to receive this honor. The market is open from 8 a.m. to noon, and anniversary festivities will kick off at 10 a.m.

The anniversary celebration also will include the ringing of the market bell, followed by a special "Happy Birthday" performed by Cajun Jam musicians.

The weekly Cajun Jam at the market has featured both Grammy-nominated and upcoming musicians, providing a platform for Acadiana’s musical talent.

With more than 60 vendors, visitors can enjoy an array of local offerings, including fresh produce, handcrafted art and ready-to-eat food. As part of the anniversary celebration, there will be a basket giveaway featuring market goods worth more than $500.

In the past decade, the market has provided a vibrant venue for local farmers, growers, producers and artisans to showcase products and connect directly with consumers. Located at Moncus Park, the market has become a cornerstone of the community, promoting sustainable and locally sourced food and supporting the thriving artisanal scene in Lafayette.

There will be an interactive children’s crafting area and other activities for kids also, and Lafayette Parish French immersion students are invited to join in all-French conversations at Kevin Domingue's French Table to celebrate Acadiana’s linguistic traditions.

Throughout its history, the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market has been a catalyst for the growth of numerous businesses, including Scratch Kitchen, Priya’s Indian Food and Bread & Circus. The market has played a part in promoting local culture and community resources by highlighting organizations such as Acadiana Animal Aid, Second Harvest Food Bank, LA Soar and the Acadiana Native Plant Project.

Free parking is available behind the market, and a complimentary, handicapped-accessible shuttle service operates every 15 minutes, departing from Blackham Coliseum until 1 p.m.

The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market is from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday at Moncus Park in Lafayette.
