LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Jack Alexander Hill is heading to prison for seven years for child exploitation and obstruction of justice.

Hill, 27, of Lafayette, pleaded guilty but mentally ill on May 19 to the charges, which accused Hill of having sexual photos of underage girls on his phone and sharing those images online.

In May and June 2020, local police received tips about Hill from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Indiana Internet Crimes and Children.

Investigators tracked the tips back to Hill, then in August 2020, Hill allowed an acquaintance to use his phone, and she noticed child porn on the phone. She reported Hill to police.

Hill reset his phone the next day, so when police confiscated it, the images were gone. That is the basis for the obstruction of justice charge.

Hill was ordered to serve seven years in prison, followed by three years on probation.

Hill has been incarcerated since his arrested in January.
