Lafayette man suspected of downloading, sharing child porn

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Twenty-five-year-old Cade Nichola Rehwinkel downloaded child pornography from the internet and also shared child pornography with others online, according to Lafayette police.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted Lafayette police about Rehwinkel's possible activity, starting a month-long investigation, according to a news release published Tuesday night.

Police arrested Rehwinkel about 8 a.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop at Teal Road and Brothers Drive, according to a news release.

Just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, officers jailed Rehwinkel, who lives in the 400 block of Matterhorn Place in Lafayette, on suspicion of possessing child pornography and suspicion of child exploitation, according to jail records.

He remained incarcerated Wednesday morning without bond. He has a hearing Wednesday afternoon.
