Lafayette police investigate 5 shots-fired incidents in 4 days
LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Lafayette police responded to four reports of shots fired over the weekend, as well as the previously reported shooting at Pheasant Run early Friday.
● At 1:46 a.m. Saturday, dispatchers received two calls of shots fired from the area of Bellingham Avenue and Coventry Lane on the city's southside, east of Polland Hill Road.
Police did not find any suspects or signs of shots fired until later in the morning when someone in the 300 block of Bellingham Avenue called to report a house had been struck by a bullet.
No one was injured, police said.

● About 8:50 a.m. Sunday, Taylor James Rehwinkel, 21, of the 800 block Cincinnati Street in Lafayette, mishandled a handgun while inside a car parked at 24th Street and Central Avenue, police said. The gun went off inside the car. No one was injured, police said.
Rehwinkel, however, went to jail on suspicion of criminal recklessness and possession of marijuana, police said. He has since been released from jail, according to online jail records.
A woman inside the car also was jailed on suspicion of possession of marijuana.
● Several people argued in the area of 18th and Meharry streets on the city's Northend about 8:50 p.m. Sunday, when one man drew a gun and fired at the people with whom he disagreed, according to police.
No one was struck, and the gunman ran west on Meharry Street after shooting the handgun.

● About 6:20 a.m. Monday, police received calls about shots fired in the area of Weaver Court and Railroad Street.
Officers found several shell casings in the area. As of later Monday morning, there had not been any reports of houses or cars struck by bullets, and there were no reports of injuries, police said.
Those shots-fired incidents came on the heels of the 1:20 a.m. Friday incident in which someone fired shots at a car leaving the Pheasant Run Apartments on the city's southside.
