The Lafayette Parish School System named James Rollins the new principal of Lerosen Preparatory School, the district announced Wednesday.

Rollins has more than 25 years of experience in education and has served as an assistant principal at W.D. and Mary Baker Smith Career Center, Carencro High School and Lafayette High School. Before becoming an administrator, Rollins taught physical science, health, physical education, ACT prep and world geography.

“My mission is to foster an environment of personal responsibility and support where students learn the skills andtools necessary for their successful re-acclimation into a traditional school setting," Rollins said in a release. Lerosen is the district's alternative school that is designed to help students who are removed from a traditional school setting for disciplinary violations. Students are typically moved to Lerosen after an expulsion hearing and assigned to the school for a minimum number of days determined by the hearing officer, though more time may be added if more intervention is needed.

Rollins has a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a master's in administration and supervision from Southern University in Baton Rouge.

“Mr. Rollins brings many strengths to Lerosen Preparatory School, and is committed to ensuringthat all students learn to maximize their potential," said LPSS Superintendent Irma Trosclair in a release. "He is an experienced educator who seeks to build relationships with students, staff, and families to create the best educational experience for students."
