Some in Lafourche prepared for boil advisory

LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Parts of Lafourche Parish are currently under a boil advisory following a water main break.

The break at the Lafourche Parish Water District South Treatment Plant was repaired Friday afternoon.

Many households, stretching from the Highway 654 bridge to the Lafourche-Jefferson Parish line, were left with no water overnight.

One family in Lockport didn’t waste any time in preparing for the loss of water.

“We know the water department is on it, but you know, knowing how to live in the old ways, we went down to the boat launch, filled up buckets, ready to flush the toilet,” explained Angelica Prince. “We filled up pots last night, boiled the water, so we had water to make our coffee this morning.”

In Galliano, many prepared by going to their local grocery store.

“This morning, when we got here at 6:30, we had a line outside the door of people waiting to get gallons of water and bottled water,” said Jaedon Burregi, the owner of Galliano’s Fresh Market. “We kind of knew last night how it was going to be this morning, so we were all prepared to get here a little earlier and deal with everything. Within 30 minutes, we were already out of gallons of water. We called our warehouse.”

Parish officials say water samples will be collected this weekend for testing, and the boil advisory will remain in effect until at least Monday which changes day-to-day operations at Galliano Fresh Market.

“We pretty much stopped cooking, for the most part, in our delis and slicing in our meat departments, but we still fry food,” Burregi said.

Despite the inconvenience, some say after going through several weather events, this is just minor.

“Through this with hurricanes and just storms and everything else that happens here, you know how to live like this,” Prince said.
