LaGrange City Council introduces new City Manager

LAGRANGE, Ga. (WRBL) – The LaGrange City Council announced on Tuesday that a new City Manager has been chosen.

According to the city, Patrick Bowie was appointed as the new LaGrange City Manager during the city’s regular council meeting on Tuesday and was named a finalist on Feb. 12.

Mayor Pro Tem Quay Boddie says Bowie is the right person for the job stating, “The City Council believes Patrick is the best candidate. He has the experience of running utilities for decades and he is extremely qualified to run the City,” Boddie said. “We have a lot of respect for Patrick and know he will do a great job.”

Bowie has dedicated over a decade of his career to the city of LaGrange. Bowie started his career with the city on Aug. 22, 1988, as the assistant director of utilities. He later became the director of utilities in July 1992. While serving as the director of utilities, the city says Bowie supervised the city’s water, sewer, natural gas, and electric divisions along with the customer service and utility service center.

Before working for the city, Bowie worked as a system engineer for the Potomac Electric Power Company in Bethesda, Maryland.

Bowie received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida in 1986 and his MBA from Lagrange College in 1988. He is also a licensed professional engineer in the state of Georgia.

Along with his educational background, Bowie has held many leadership positions and served on multiple boards and councils throughout his career including:

  • The Board of the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia, which he has served on since 1998 and was chairman from 2005-2007.

  • The American Public Gas Association Board of Directors from 1999-2005.

  • Bowie has served the Georgia Energy and Industrial Construction Consortium since 2013 and was the chairman in 2014 and 2021.

  • The Middle Chattahoochee Water Council, which he has served on since 2021.

Bowie shared his eagerness to serve alongside city employees and continuing to serve LaGrange citizens.

“I am honored to be named the city manager of LaGrange. I’m excited to take on this next challenge in my career,” Bowie said. “We have an excellent team of employees at the City and my goal is to support them as they meet the needs of our citizens.”
