Lake Andes woman identified as victim of fatal head-on crash Thursday near Pickstown

Jun. 14—PICKSTOWN, S.D. — A Lake Andes woman has been identified as the person who died late Thursday night in a head-on crash near Pickstown.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on June 9, authorities in Charles Mix County were called to mile marker 278 of South Dakota Highway 46, roughly two miles east of Pickstown, for a report of a two-vehicle crash.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2012 Chrysler Town & County minivan was westbound on S.D. 46 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.

Sandra Wade, the 76-year-old driver of the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.

All three male occupants of the pickup were injured. Gage Matzen, the 24-year-old driver from Tea, sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to the Wagner hospital and later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. He was wearing a seat belt.

The two other passengers, an 18-year-old from Colton and a 19-year-old from Renner, suffered minor injuries. Their seat belt use is under investigation.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
