Lake Brantley, Deltona, OCP host FHSAA softball region finals

It’s been three weeks since Lake Brantley’s softball team has yielded a run to an opposing team.

The five-game stretch includes Florida High School Athletic Association district championship and regional semifinal shutouts of area rival Lake Mary.

Lake Brantley defeated Lake Mary 6-0 on Tuesday as Kiley Strott went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and Auriana Turner hit a 2-run homer.

Gabriella Mike struck out 9 and allowed 4 hits with no walks while also going 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored. Mike has a 0.91 ERA with 129 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings pitched.

The Patriots, ranked No. 1 overall in FHSAA power rankings entering the playoffs, host Port Orange Spruce Creek in the Class 7A Region 1 final Friday.

Lake Mary’s loss ends the career of long-time coach Jeannie Fisher, who retires with a 573-359 record that includes three years as a coach in West Virginia. Fisher led the Rams to a state title in 1998 and won her 500th game at the school in 2021.

“I have so much respect for Coach Fisher and all she’s accomplished in her 33 years at Lake Mary,” Lake Brantley coach Jacob Stanley wrote Wednesday in a social media post. “Very grateful I had an opportunity to coach against, and learn from, one of the all time greats in our sport.”

Deltona and Orlando Christian Prep also play at home Friday in regional finals.

Hagerty, which won 9-4 against Navarre in 6A, goes on the road to face No. 1 seed Pace, which won 11-1 Wednesday vs. Oviedo (15-11). Addison Orr and Ana Roman homered Tuesday for Hagerty.

OCP plays Foundation Academy for the fourth time this spring in its first regional final appearance since 2014. Grace Thomas went 2-for-3 with a run scored and struck out 8 in a 7-2 win vs. Academy at the Lakes (17-8).

Foundation advanced by winning 7-5 at Cornerstone Charter (20-9-1) for its first win against the Ducks in 14 tries. Kena Terry went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.

Windermere High and Deltona, a state champion last season, each advanced with shutout wins.

Katie McCaw struck out 8 and gave up 2 hits during Deltona’s 9-0 win vs. Fort Walton Beach (18-8). Lexi King finished with 4 strikeouts and 3 hits allowed as Windermere won 10-0 in six innings against Sarasota (21-5).

Montverde Academy’s Aracelis Jimenez went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles during a 3-1 vs. South Sumter (16-11).

The seasons ended Tuesday for Boone (17-6), Bishop Moore (22-4), Eustis (19-6) and Groveland South Lake (11-16).

Friday winners advance to FHSAA state tournaments next week in Clermont.
