Lake Carmel firefighters battle house fire on Church Hill Road during thunderstorm

KENT — Several fire departments battled a blaze that burned through a house during a heavy thunderstorm on Sunday evening.

A home that was being renovated on Church Hill Road caught fire around 7:15 p.m. It was unoccupied and had extensive damage.

There are no fire hydrants in the area, so tankers trucked in water.

The Putnam County Fire Investigation Team was working to determine the cause of the fire.

Firefighters from Lake Carmel, Carmel, Kent, Brewster, Patterson and East Fishkill responded, along with Kent police.
