Lake Charles Civic Center Roof Collapses During Hurricane Laura

The Lake Charles Civic Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana, was severely damaged by Hurricane Laura, video taken August 27 shows.

Joshua Morrow, who streamed footage of the damage on Facebook Live, can be heard saying the hurricane “blew the doors off” as he walks inside the building.

“This is where they wanted us to sleep last night,” Morrow says in the footage. He also posted a photo to Facebook of fire trucks with the caption “LCFD Company 4 anchored down at the civic center.”

In the video, insulation can be seen on the floor and the sky can be seen through the roof braces.

Hurricane Laura left a path of destruction along Louisiana’s coast on Thursday. The hurricane killed at least six people, flattened buildings, brought severe flooding, caused major damage to roads and other infrastructure, and cut off water and power to communities, according to local media.
