Lake County election results: Tyler Brandeburg retains School Board seat; big night for GOP

TAVARES — Tyler Brandeburg retained his District 2 Lake County School Board seat Tuesday over challenger Jim Miller in a special election, taking 75,478 (58 percent) of the votes.

Brandeburg was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to Kristi Burns’ seat this summer when she decided to leave the board. An insurance broker, he graduated from the University of Florida in 2017. He also volunteers with the Educational Foundation,

Miller, 73, a Leesburg Realtor, has been on the Educational Foundation of Lake County for 25 years, and has been a youth soccer and baseball coach for the Leesburg Recreation Department for 41 years.

Miller and Brandeburg defeated Ludy Lopez in the August primary. At one time, there were seven candidates in the race.

Incumbent Republican County Commissioner Sean Parks retained his seat by 95 percent of the votes in a write-in race, 120,670 to 6,193.

Lake County Supervisor of Elections Alan Hays reported on the agency’s website that there was a 57 percent turnout among the 276,189 registered voters.

Lake County voters sided with incumbent Republican Gov. DeSantis, 105,580 to 51,799 over former Gov. Charlie Crist, who is now a Democrat. DeSantis won statewide.

Lake County, a longtime Republican stronghold, also voted for U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio over Democrat Val Demings, 102,142 to 54,564, for 65 percent of the local total. Rubio won statewide.

Republican Michael Waltz received 77 percent of the votes over Joseph Hannoush, 35,764 to 10,571, in the U.S. District 6 House race. In District 11, U.S. Rep. Daniel Webster, also a Republican, took 70,296 or 65 percent of the votes over Democrat Shante Munns.

In the Lake Soil and Water Conservation District 1 race, Matthew Griffin collected 81,580 votes to Carlos Lugo’s 44,936 in the nonpartisan contest.

Democrat Aramis Ayala came up short against incumbent Republican Attorney General Ashley Moody, 48,307 to Moody’s 108,234 in Lake County votes. Moody also won statewide.

Incumbent Republican Jimmy Patronis nabbed 103,824 votes for chief financial officer against Democratic challenger Adam Hattersley, who earned 51,434. Lake voters gave the nod to Republican Wilton Simpson for Commissioner of Agriculture, 103,918 over Democrat Naomi Esther Blemur’s 51,381 votes. Both the incumbent Republicans won statewide.

The State House 25 election featured Republican Taylor Yarkosky versus nonparty candidate Banks Helfrich, with Yarkosky taking 66 percent, or 45,964 to 23,621.

In District 26, it was Republican Keith Truenow winning with 47,864 votes or 68 percent to Democrat Linda Kero’s 22,641.

The State Senate District 13 race featured Republican Dennis Baxley against Democrat Stephanie L. Dukes, with Baxley winning 101,306 to 53,290.

The three Republicans also won in their respective districts.
